Binance Spot Order Filters: Minimum Notional, Step Size, and Price Precision

Check why a valid-looking crypto quantity can fail minimum-notional or step-size rules. Follow a hypothetical BTC order example and separate spot filters from MT5 lots.

By TickerAI

A crypto order can fit a trader's intended amount yet fail the venue's instrument filters. Price increments, quantity increments, minimum quantity, and notional limits are separate constraints. Displaying enough decimal places does not guarantee that all of them are satisfied.

Use the current symbol metadata and order type. Do not infer trading permissions or minimum order size from the number of digits shown on a public chart.

Read the filter names and fields

Binance's official spot filter documentation describes rules including PRICE_FILTER, LOT_SIZE, MIN_NOTIONAL, and NOTIONAL. Applicable rules and market-order treatment depend on their configured fields.

A quantity step controls permitted quantity increments. A price tick controls permitted price increments. A notional rule constrains value under the venue's relevant price convention; it is not automatically the same as a quantity minimum.

Retrieve current settings rather than copying a threshold from an old screenshot. The following values are invented to explain interactions, not current BTCUSDT requirements.

Work through a quantity and value conflict

Assume a hypothetical price of 60,000 USDT, quantity step of 0.00001 BTC, minimum notional of 10 USDT, and a strategy-defined maximum quantity of 0.000167 BTC.

Rounding the raw maximum down to the permitted step gives 0.00016 BTC, worth 9.60 USDT. That satisfies the assumed step but fails the assumed minimum notional.

The next valid quantity, 0.00017 BTC, is worth 10.20 USDT and passes that minimum. It exceeds the strategy's maximum quantity, however. Rounding upward would change the exposure budget rather than resolve the conflict harmlessly.

CandidateNotional at the assumed priceResult under the example rules
0.000167 BTC10.02 USDTQuantity does not fit the step
0.00016 BTC9.60 USDTBelow minimum notional
0.00017 BTC10.20 USDTExceeds the strategy quantity cap

Under these assumptions there is no acceptable order at that cap and price. Skipping is a coherent outcome.

Price precision is an independent check

Suppose the hypothetical price tick is 0.1 USDT. A limit price of 60,000.07 does not fit that increment. Replacing it with another price changes the instruction and can change notional or execution behavior.

Choose rounding appropriate to the intended limit and side, then rerun all applicable checks. Do not round price and quantity independently and assume the final product still passes the value constraint.

Numerical display precision also differs from validation. A software field accepting eight decimals is not evidence that the venue permits every eight-decimal quantity.

Market orders need their own interpretation

For relevant market-order filters, the venue can use reference prices or configured averaging conventions rather than a limit price supplied by the trader. Read the current flags and reference settings in the documentation and metadata.

A quote change can also alter the notional between estimation and submission. Passing a local calculation is not a promise that the server will accept the final request.

Record the actual rejection message and filter context. Repeatedly increasing quantity to clear an error can exceed the original exposure or cash budget.

Do not transfer spot filters into MT5 lot rules

A broker crypto CFD can have different contract size, lot step, tick value, margin, and minimum volume. Binance spot metadata does not define that broker contract merely because both names reference Bitcoin.

TickerAI currently uses Binance spot candles for public crypto analysis. That data connection is not a native Binance spot execution integration or a guarantee that every live spot filter was checked.

Broker-connected execution follows its supported MT5 instrument path. Verify the actual venue and contract before using an AI-generated size as an executable instruction.

Keep a verifiable pre-order record

Save symbol, metadata timestamp, order type, price reference, raw quantity, rounded quantity, notional, and the strategy cap. Ask TickerAI to explain missing inputs rather than invent current filters it has not retrieved.

Use spot versus perpetual distinctions, broker symbol checks, and the pre-trade checklist. A valid order is a mechanics check, not evidence that the trade has a positive expected return.
