MT5 Invalid Stops: Check Stop Level, Freeze Level, and Price Units

Troubleshoot an MT5 invalid stops rejection using broker distance rules, point size, current prices, and valid price increments without removing risk controls.

By TickerAI

An MT5 invalid stops response means the requested protective levels or related order parameters were not accepted under the broker's rules. The right next step is to inspect the request and current symbol specification, rather than remove the stop just to make the order pass.

A rejected request is evidence to investigate. It is not proof that the strategy is wrong, that the broker is malfunctioning, or that an identical retry will succeed after prices have changed.

Start with the exact rejected operation

Record whether you were opening a position, placing a pending order, or modifying an existing stop. Save the exact symbol, side, order type, prices, volume, timestamp, and sanitized broker error.

Check the current account state before retrying. A timeout and an explicit rejection are different outcomes: a missing acknowledgement does not establish that no order exists. Verify positions and orders through the broker before sending a new instruction.

Keep passwords and unnecessary account identifiers out of screenshots and support messages. A useful diagnostic record contains the request facts without exposing credentials.

Read the symbol's distance and unit fields

MetaQuotes documents a stop level and a freeze level in its symbol properties reference. The stop-level field expresses a minimum distance in points; the freeze-level field describes a zone in which certain operations can be restricted.

Point size and minimum tick size are separate fields. A distance in points must be converted using the appropriate point value. A valid price also needs to fit the permitted price increment and precision.

Do not assume a displayed zero removes every possible broker restriction. Confirm the current server response and applicable conditions for that symbol and operation.

Work through a hypothetical distance check

Assume a five-decimal EURUSD listing with point size 0.00001 and a stop-level requirement of 50 points. The corresponding distance is:

50 × 0.00001 = 0.00050, or five conventional EURUSD pips.

If the relevant broker reference price for the check is 1.10000, a requested level at 1.09970 is only 0.00030 away. Under those assumptions, it fails that minimum-distance comparison. A level at 1.09940 is 0.00060 away, although other checks can still reject it.

InputHypothetical value
Point size0.00001
Required distance50 points
Converted distance0.00050
First requested distance0.00030: insufficient
Second requested distance0.00060: distance check alone passes

The example deliberately specifies a relevant reference rather than assuming every order type checks distance from the same displayed chart price. Verify the broker's applicable bid, ask, or order-price rules.

Recheck geometry and the live quote

For a conventional long plan, the protective stop belongs below the intended entry and the profit target above it. A short plan reverses that geometry. Swapped fields or a stale quote can make an otherwise plausible-looking request invalid.

A valid request at analysis time may fail after the market moves. Retrieve a fresh quote and recompute the distances before deciding whether the original setup is still meaningful.

See pip, point, and tick values if the units are unclear. Do not multiply a pip distance by a point value without converting between them.

A wider stop requires a new sizing calculation

Suppose a hypothetical position risks $30 over a 10-pip distance. Widening that distance to 15 pips while keeping volume unchanged increases planned price risk to $45. Passing the broker's distance check does not preserve the original budget automatically.

Recalculate volume, reward-to-risk, and costs. If the permitted minimum volume no longer fits the plan, skipping is an available outcome. Tightening or widening a stop only to avoid a rejection changes the exit rule and should be recorded honestly.

What TickerAI checks

TickerAI checks idea geometry and risk rules, then retrieves broker specifications and a current quote before an executable request. Its application checks do not guarantee broker acceptance, and different point or tick conventions still require verification against the actual symbol.

Ask the assistant to explain the refused request and distinguish known broker fields from assumptions. Use MT5 order types and the pre-trade checklist before another attempt. Troubleshooting should clarify the trade, not bypass its protection.
